August 5-16, 2010
Join us for an exciting Vista Dome adventure on a great circle tour
of the Northwest, Midwest and Rocky Mountains aboard private vintage
cars including a dome diner lounge and modern Pullman sleeping cars.
August 5 - Our departure today will be on Amtrak’s
“Coast Starlight”, bound for Seattle. We will be at the
front of the train, allowing easy access to Amtrak’s diner.
A highlight of today’s journey will be spectacular views from
the dome of 113 miles of California coast line.
Later in the evening, retire to the comfort of your room. The Pullman
berth will feel especially good after a day of sightseeing from the
train.
August 6 – We awake this morning in Southern
Oregon. The forests on both sides of train are spectacular as we
pass through many tunnels enroute to Klamath Falls in the morning
and Portland later in the afternoon. The view from the dome provides
a unique and spectacular vantage point to see the country side in
Oregon and Washington.
Our arrival in Seattle is scheduled at 8:45pm. Our cars will be
switched to a track in the King Street Station where they will serve
as our hotel for the next two days.
August 7 – The day is yours to enjoy as you
wish. There are many sights to see around the city, on Puget Sound,
or perhapsthe Boeing factory tour or the Boeing Museum. As is the
case throughout our journey, snacks, coffee and light beverages are
always available in the dome.
A light continental breakfast will also be available each day. Meals
are on your own in the Amtrak diner or at restaurants of your choice
in the cities we visit.
August 8 – We leave for Chicago in Amtrak’s
“Empire Builder” at 4:45pm. The cars will be moved from
the station to the servicing yard this morning. Until our departure
this afternoon, you will have time to continue your tour of the
city. The cars will be available for boarding about 4:15pm.
Upon departure, we will be able to enjoy spectacular views of Puget
Sound, as we hug the shore headed for the Cascade Mountains. Relax
in the spacious seating of the dome diner lounge. Your comfortable
Pullman awaits you when you decide to turn in.
August 9 – We are scheduled to arrive in
Whitefish, Montana at breakfast time. A light continental breakfast
will be available, as usual, in the dome diner lounge or you may
wish to visit the Amtrak diner as we will again have access to the
rest of the train.
We will be near Glacier National Park and you should anticipate
some interesting scenery. The evening will find us crossing the
Dakotas and Northern Minnesota.

daylight. By evening, we will be in Utah and, around midnight, in
Salt Lake City. After a comfortable night’s sleep in your
Pullman berth, morning will find us nearing Reno, Nevada.

Sierra Mountains, following the original route of the Central Pacific
Railroad. As we wind through the mountains, breathtaking views will
be the norm, particularly from our Vista Dome diner lounge.
Later in the afternoon, our train is expected to arrive in Emeryville
(Oakland), California. We will be switched off the train in the
Amtrak yard for servicing and preparation for being added to the
